Hi, I have a paradise fish, but I am afraid that it is ill. I haven't noticed any physical signs, but its behavior has changed quite a bit in the past day or so. It is lathargic, mainly sitting at the bottom of the bowl, then coming up for air quickly and then back down to the bottom. It no longer responds to me or blows bubbles for a nest. It doesn't even seem to be interested in food, (I feed it Tetra flakes.) The water has just been cleaned, so I don't think that is it. It is in a one gallon bowl since I can't afford to invest in anything larger at this time, although I know the fish would do better in a bigger tank. Plus, my local pet store said it would survive in this size bowl. I am a fish novice: before this, I only had some feeder fish from left over science class projects, but I did alright with them. Any help would be appreciated.

How big is your bowl? Is there filtration?

It is a one gallon drum, and there is no filtration.

i think they have taken you for a bit of a ride.

YES, he will survive in there, but these fish get pretty big, certainly too big for 1 gallon, you need at least 5. Do you have a birthday coming up soon? could you ask for a tank for then?

for now, keep the water cool and try varying the diet (include some veggiebits or bloodworms or sea monkeys/brine shrimp) and make sure you change that water regularly, AND be sure to get a bigger tank ASAP, as things won't be good if he stays in there too much longer.

I thought it sounded like a bit much:%)

Look into a Mini-bow 5, Eclipse 5, or Eclipse 6. The Elipse systems are a bit on the expensive side
