My betta passed away yesterday afternoon.
Dirty
4/23/04 - 7/23/04.

My girlfriend and I went to PetCo after school and browsed around the betta section. Well, I wanted to, but she didn't. Anyway for about 15 minutes, I was looking at some of the bettas and she was shifting through the bettas and saw "Dirty". Dirty is his name, she gave him the name because she thought he was so cute swimming around in the cup and was a mixed color betta. Basically he had a black spotted head.

He was the fourth betta I have purchased in time of keeping bettas, but yet, he was the one I liked the best. Maybe cause my girlfriend chose it or that he was the most curious and affectionate of my 5. He swam to my finger picked off the pellet from my fingers, swam inbetween my hand, had staring contests with me, etc. ....sigh...

Cuase of death:
Unknown. Few days ago he was swimming actively and always flared at his neighbors when I removed the paper. Then suddenly he just laid at the bottom of the tank, so I thought oops, water must be dirty, so water change, salt, still the same. He started to refuse eating..........

Yesterday I took him out of the tank he was in and placed him in a cup of water so I could clean his tank again. I tried feeding him, he just stared at me...Then I noticed he had red around the right side of his mouth and some red near his caudal fin. I was like godamnit! being frustrated not being able to help my favorite guy. and yea....a few minutes later, he was just floating.......

ARGH!...sorry i just needed to write this somewhere.

My girlfriend had a terrible time just watching "her" fish lay on the bottom breathing and doing nothign else. I think she affected me or something, I felt so horrible.

But anyway, I am starting to believe my betta was slowly being poisoned. I'm not sure what to say, but the rocks that are supposedly "aquarium safe" seem to be losing color or peeling. I was rinsing and bleaching the tank when I looked over to the rocks cause it was shiny, and I spotted a few that were peeling I guess. Sigh...so for 3 months, my betta was slowly being poisoned. I feel horrible now....
