Hoa dude_dude Mega Fish Posts: 957 Kudos: 888 Votes: 72 Registered: 28-Dec-2004 | I have an empty 5g just sittin' around & I think I want to put some fish in it (duh!), so I was thinking of either, Sparkling gourmais, wild bettas , cories or cherry barbs, but heres the catch, I want to have a betta or a gourmai with one (or 2 or 6 !!) of those fish, WILL ANY COMBINATION WORK? 2 Gourmais & 2 cherries? 2 Gourmais & 6 dwarf/pygmy cories??? 1 betta & 6 dwarf/pygmy cories?? 1 betta & 2 cherry barbs???? 2 Gourmais & 1 betta?? 4 bettas (dunno if I really want this though..) Any other tankmate suggestions? thanx the betta(if any) will be, female smaragdina or female imbellis or a female splenden. Last edited by dude_dude at 11-May-2005 04:20 |

You're going to want to understock, since it can be tricky to keep the water parameters stable in a five gallon. Four bettas is not a good idea, ten gallons would be needed if you wanted to go that route. Just thought I'd let you know. |

They're both similar in size which would give the tank balance, yet contrasting in color for an interesting effect. Both can be a bit shy and do appreciate plants. Throw in a few ghost shrimp to help with the bottom. Have to show off one of my sparkling gouramis Theresa_M attached this image: Last edited by Theresa_M at 11-May-2005 06:15[/font] ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

I think the tank will look fine & you wouldn't be overstocked. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

sham Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3369 Kudos: 2782 Votes: 98 Registered: 21-Apr-2004 | My 7 sparkling gouramis get along with everything but I wouldn't put them with a betta. Bettas don't really mix with other labyrinth fish. They are tiny little things and only get around 1-1.5" as well as being quite peaceful. 2 should work with other fish but I know nothing about cherry barbs or dwarf cories. I have mine in the 55g with a variety of other fish. |

houston Fish Guru You want what when? Posts: 2623 Kudos: 2462 Votes: 337 Registered: 29-Mar-2003 | how about 2 or 3 sparkling gouramis? If they are small and that pretty that would look nice in a little 5 gallon, or just one pretty female bettaok i'm indecisive, i wouldn't got with the smaller corries in this size of tank just do to the instability of a 5 gallonand you would want them in a group of 6-10 at leasthml Struggle within Triggered again Now the candle burns at both ends Twisting under schizophrenia Falling deep into dementia Old habits reappear Fighting the fear of fear ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Last edited by heidi michelle at 11-May-2005 16:36 "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom."
