I think I have managed to determine the gender of my sparkling gouramis which I also found out after lots of picture looking are T.Schalleri(sp?) not T.pumilus. I looked at my gouramis in the light and can definitely see a difference in the internal organs of one of them but from descriptions people have given me I can't tell if I have 1 male or 1female. The different one is the smallest by alot and other than that there are no external physical differences. It's internal organs are just a round dark spot where the same spot on the others isn't perfectly round and a lines continues out just under their stripe. Anyone know the exact gender of my gouramis? I planned to move them as a breeding pair or trio to my 5g hex when I found out who was what or anyone showed an interest in breeding. Should I move the smallest one with a similar sized one or the largest one which is over twice the size of that one? Should I move only 1 other gourami or 2? I would prefer 1 male and 2female in the tank but I don't know what exactly I have.

Sparkling gouramis I don't know but every other gourami, the male has pointed fins, the female roundish fins..

Additional info for you.

Sparkling gouramis have the same fins and there aren't really any other external features to look for. I think all Trichopsis species are like that. Some have said the spots/stripes are fewer or faded or that the fins have less red but then others have proven that completely false. The only way that seems proven is to shine a light at them and look at the internal organs but I'm not sure which shape means male.
I think I'm going to take the most agressive medium sized gourami, the least agressive medium sized gourami, and the different small gourami and put them in the tank. (When it's done getting treated for leeches)
