Sounds great Funnyfish, any chance of a photograph?

Yes, you can sometimes find some nice fish at WalMart. I recently found a pretty white/opaque veil tail betta. In bright light he has a faint tint of pastel green (but that could be because of the blue background in his tank).
Congradulations on your lucky find.

I have been noticing nicer bettas becoming available at common petstores as well. for example, i was in petco the other day, and they have been getting in some really really nice crowntail bettas lately...and they only charge like $7....for a really nice looking fish. also, at my family owned LFS, which i love, they have some really nice crowntails too. in fact, i bought my last breeding pair there for around $15, rather than spending $50-$100 online for "show quality" bettas...and they are just as nice. the offspring all came out beautiful..ALL crowntails.

Yes, I found a gorgeous crowntail at Petsmart not lot ago. They have some nice ones, and not expensive either.
