My sister just rescued a betta from a pet store that was so active but his fin is tattered. is there any way to fix this and also bring out his color more? He really does have the potential to be a beautiful fish he's just dull at the moment and tattered. Please help!

Generally, simple good care will perk up the colors and clean water will do worlds of good for torn fins. If you like, add a little melafix to the water to promote fin regrowth. If the water is kept sparkling clean, no infection should set in.

Get him started on a good quality betta pellet (hikari is a good one) and supplement with things such as bloodworms and frozen foods. Those should bring out his colors... just make sure he doesn't get addicted to freeze dried bloodworms... it's like a child eating ice cream every day!

~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~

I agree with Kitten, but would just like to add one thing. The directions for Melafix tell you to dose for 7 days followed by a 25% WC. When I first tryed Melafix I followed the directions, but soon had complications. After doing some research and talking to some people pn FP, It was brought to my attention that Melafix is a powerful med. It was suggested to instead of treating for 7 days straight, dose on the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th days followed by a bigger WC. I have had great results using this method. Good luck
