Bettas don't change sex.

Never heard of anyone intersecting their bettas either.

Can you supply pictureS?

I have never heard of a betta changing sexes, and I do not believe it can or did happen. I think that you probably had a long finned female or short finned male... not sure which from the description.

well dan i am not a newb, but n.e way the faces changed and no longer was the bettas face bolder and now it looks like a female. it also has the white spot under niether her. even though it maybe be possible that since it was a short fin female i mistook it for a short tail male since "it" came in a shippment of about 50 other short fin males. i am going with myidea that this is a trans betta.

I don't think bettas have the ability to change sexes... you probably just have a betta whose sex is difficult to determine. I have a betta that's quite like that... bought as a female, but I still can't figure out if it's male or female. *shrugs*

Chris I don't see you as a newb. The fading has nothing to do with its sex. It could be a marble type which some change colors, or it could be unhealthy, or poorly taken care of. Coloration has in my experience nothing to do with sex. It was probably always a female.

Don't know what color the fish in question is, but I know there's something like a red-loss gene in which the betta begins red but turns out white? At least... I think so! I think I saw something like this when looking at some betta breeding sites. :%)

Chris,
To put it in a nice way....you messed up man, Sorry. but obviously you mistake a female for a male and now you don't know what you have. Betta's DO NOT change sex!! This kinda goes back to my questions about your Betta's. You should always know WHAT you are getting.....

It is not possible for a betta to change sex. That is just a fact. With all the plakats and such on the market now, it is harder and harder to tell the difference. My female plakats and male plakats look VERY much alike. Plakats in general are far more aggressive than regular veils. If there is ANY doubt in your mind, I would not even think about breeding them. I recently lost a male plakat because a female bit such a huge hole in his side. If in fact it is a female, it will have a white bump on it's underside, will swell with eggs when she is ready to breed, and will get stripes vertically through her color. As far as the betta changing color, all of mine do it. Mood, temperature, water parameters, etc. have a lot to do with it. Sometimes some of my most vibrant bettas will be very dull looking until I offer them some brine shrimp and then their color is almost electric! Hope all of this helps!

Enough is enough. The points from both sides have been made. Stormy was correct in what was said.
