Hes light blue and dark pink or red on his fins. The end of his fins are very jagged.

ladiejl attached this image:

Im thinking he is a crowntail. He looks like Officer Pretty Boy owned by Houston. See he post in this forum, "Officer Pretty Boy".

Ladie,

It appears to me that the Betta you have here, is a low
quality Crowntail. Bettas are categorized by their finnage,
and sometimes even by colour, though colour and finnage can
both be inherited. The reason I say he is low quality is
simply that his Caudal fin does not apear to have much length,
and seems to be of a rather acute angle(less than 90*).

Though usually the angle of the tail is measured when the
betta is flaring. I am not an expert on Bettas, so if I am
mistaken Then I apologize and will gladly learn from my
errors.

HTH,
Megil.

cambiodian crown tail male. old.

isn't it light body, and darker fins, like in the picture. idk maybe i am color blind, i have been fighting the flu the past 3 days.

when u break it down more i would call it a camboidan, b/c i dont really ever call anything a multi color.. really a betta that is blue/red would be a blue or red betta with either blue or red wash. with a white betta with random red color would be a white with red wash.

Hmm... chris, I thought 'cambodian' referred to a betta who had say, a light pink body and darker fins. Maybe I'm mistaken in this? If I had to label ladiejl's betta, I'd say multicolored, but I wouldn't call it a cambo... am I wrong in this?

Ah well... in any case, yes, crowntail.

UGH!!! I had this all typed now what happened

Anyways I have to agree with Megil, it looks like a CrownTail...

You typically tell the betta by what the finnage looks like.

The "cuts" on your betta are "deep" and thus that becomes a crowntail...

If they were more shallow, I believe it would me him a CombTail.

The "more common" bettas, are VeilTails, and there are tons of others...

Here is a closer picture of Officer Pretty Boy, and I know he is a CrownTail, so that might help

Im pretty sure hes a crowntail.

You said, "old". Are you saying my betta is old? If anything, I thought him to be young because he is not as big as other Bettas I have had. Shorten his fins a lot and hes the size of a female.

I havent saw him make any bubbles yet.

I put him in the tank w my fry. He hasnt ate any that I have saw. He acts like a cat...hides behind things then darts out at the or moves really slow like he is sneaky up on them but then he doesnt eat them. He actually has hid in the log a lot. The fry dont seem to notice him.

Heres another pic....

Old or not, I think hes gorgeous and I like him.

Looks like a red with a blue/purple wash to me... kind of hard to tell.

Still wouldn't call it a cambo... but I suppose that's my opinion. Everything I've read defines a cambodian as a pink, flesh-colored or white body with dark colored fins. I don't see that here. *shrugs*

I've got to agree with kitten on this...that isn't a cambodian It looks like the red with a purple/blue wash...more like Officer Pretty Boy, and a whole lot less like a cambodian.

Hi body is light pink, fades into light blue where his fins begin then his fins turn a dark pinkish red. I named him Roseavelt. Rose.....Roseavelt. Anyway, the top of his head is the pinkish red color also. His fins are really jagged and shredded looking on the ends.

I still want to know if he is really old. Im going to ask the LFS when I go in next if they know. They will most likely say he is young. They wouldnt want to say they sold me a year old betta.

Since hes in this tank, how do I know if he gets the food I drop in for him??

the best way is to watch him, at first some bettas will mouth their foods but wont eat it, but if the food is close to what they usually eat, then (if let's say frozen blood worms) u will see him his head back, showing the grinding/ingesting movement.

as for age, most lfs bettas (mostly veils) are old bettas, these are often petshop breeders that will produce common bettas that are often shipped over the world. anyway, it is possible to get 3 month olds at lfs, but still rare, true CT at most lfs will be generally younger fish, but the best way of insuring the odds, that the fish is younger, really age doesnt play a part in everyday life, only when breeding conditions come into afect.

Heh... wanted to mention earlier... you say he's small because he's the size of a female? Am I the ONLY one who has huge betta girls? Looking at body size alone, almost ALL of my full grown girls easily "outweigh" my boys.

My newest betta boy was in a breeder box in my 20 gallon until I could set up his tank... My largest girl was practically four times the size he was. Of course, he's rather young, but still... He doesn't look like he'll grow up to be THAT big.

When I clean tanks this weekend, I'll set up one of my full grown boys in the breeder box and try to get pictures of him next to my girls.

He doesn't look particularly old... but yes, generally pet store bettas are at LEAST 6 months old when you get them... some can be 9-12 months, I believe. I've gotten some really tiny betta boys (I'll show you pics of my lil crowntail if I remember)... you can tell they're young because they're like a puppy that hasn't grown into its paws yet... or well, sorta...

He looks just like my Zed, kinda pinkish-bluish tranlucent kinda body and very striking velvety red finnage. Not too sure the age, but sure is a purdy fish. Zed I picked up at petsmart. I was looking for a brilliant blue guy but they didn't look too good, and Zed was the best looking and definitely most lively one there. He is very happy in his nice ten gal with Speedy the snail.

oops, wrong color scheme
