"the way that an owner houses/cares for there animal is there own bussiness. please do not tell me that there is a wrong/right way to keep bettas.

i mean i agree that there are some things that don't seem enough but i don't say anything. one can't really say that there is a problem with that. maybe you have an opition that it is so small, and your intitled to that, but please don't tell me that i am wrong, thats all"

Really have to disagree with you on this one. The way people keep their fish may be their business, but there are certainly rights and wrongs. Every fish has a minimum tank size, even bettas. If the betta has no room to move, is constantly gasping at the surface, lying on its side, then it is being kept wrong. A fish that is surviving isnt necessarily thriving. Sure, there are exceptions to the rules, but there are some rules. Besides, if you come here and post your stocklist and ask for help, youre inviting us into your buisness and shouldnt be offended when we tell you your overstocked.

Secondly, If an owner houses its pitbull in small cage and barely feeds it, it is my business. An abused dog is a danger to the community, thats why the state can come in and take animals away from their owner.

bettas are really best by them selves for the reason stated, that other fishes may eat there fins.

a 10 gallon would be ok, but it depends on the amount of female bettas, i am not saying that you buy 1 10 gallon tank per female betta(yet i know people are going to tell me i am wrong.)

also, i'm wrong, well it seems that way. i know most betta people do not buy a 500 gallon tank for one betta. also you are talking about two different things. how can you compare a betta to an oscar or arowana. you can't.
a betta's maxium size is around 12 inches, where a arowana can get two (from what i heard 40 in) and an oscar can get really big. like i said you are intitled to your own opition that you can put your bettas in what ever you want,

but you have some nerve telling me that i am wrong b/c i don't put my betta in a 150 like my frontosa.

update:
your right i am going to say that's completly different. you even know it seening how you wrote it.
the common bettas size is only 2.5 inches.

i am also not saying that it is ok to put a betta in enough water where the gills are just covered.

but i guess i am wrong and people can't keep there fishes they way they are and every1 has to do it one way.

but getting back to the topic, treat your injuried bettas with betta max and put them in bowls, until you get your female community tank set-up.

also katie: did i ever, EVER! come in here and type my stock list. no the answer is no.

also i don't understand why both of you are comparing this to everyother thing, but bettas. you got arowanas, oscars, dogs.

Ah now you might have helped me out here. I have had a problem for some time now with nipping and because i have such a big tank and a lot of fish i could not track the culprit down. Now i have got skirt tetras so maybe just maybe it is them that is nipping.

i would never put any of my bettas in any thing smaller than a gallon, and each of them would be in a 5 gallon if i could afford it i have bettas in my 29, my 10s and the rest r seperated individually

i treat bettas just as i do anyother fish, temp small containers os ok but ONLY TEMP!!!!!!

sorry

yea like katie said the tank size would be helpful.

my larges BGK was around 1.5 feet in a 300 gallon with a clown knife.

any sized betta bowl is fine, b/c as you may know the long fin bettas aren't in the wild, so they can't swim very well in a reg tank with a filter going.

How big is your tank?

Id move the betta to a bowl of 2 gal or more. The bgk will get around 15-20 inches long, so you will most likely need to move him too.

The tetras and cories need schools of 6.

long finned bettas don't belong in a fish tank with other fishes, unless you are willing to let him lose finage. the BGK would be my guess. they have been know to eat eyes off of tetras, and fins aren't any different.

there are many types of sponge filters out there, and they all do a good job for a bowl.

also the BGK doesn't belong in that set-up.

Really ? Tetras ? and i thought they were suppose to be all docile and peace loving. i thought it was the bkf and almost thought of removing it to another tank.Btw my tank is quite bare at the moment only one annabius, so i'am just wondering if my tank setup contribute to the behaviour of the tetra?

I also think that the Tetra's are the culprits.

i'd say the tetras, i had that problem when i had some black skirts a while back in a 20g with my betta. as far as the filter. only time any fish have problems getting caught in them is when their dieing, thats highly unlikely if the betta is still young.

Fish tanks are an expensive addiction
