*livebearers are not good for small tanks* | |
bettachris Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3875 Kudos: 4173 Votes: 452 Registered: 13-Jun-2004 | Many new comers to the fishkeeping hobby, start off with small tanks, such as ten gallons, and stock with fish such as guppies/platies/swordtails/mollies. tips for livebearers beginners. * Livebearers are fishes that give birth to live young, so they can easy overstock a tank, with 1 drop of young. * Female livebearers have the ablitiy to store sperm inside of them, so this means without a male, she can still get pregent, and drop babies. * If u have a small tank, and are still looking for livebearers, get an all male group. That way there will be no breeding. * When stocking a ten with livebearers stay clear of swordtails, and mollies. these should have a min of 20 gallons, b/c of 1, there size, 2 there swimming ability. Guppies and platies are ok in a ten. Males that is. * Dont get me wrong, livebearers can breed in a ten, but it is best to have a 20+ gallon aquarium to house the young. |
