10 days ago i was getting ready to retreve a female guppy to be placed into the birthing bucket, as i went for her i saw a small fry, i thought "BABY!" and quickly scooped it out of the 10 gallon, then after a lot or searching i found 4 more hidden amongst the plants, the last one took some work, he wouldent swim he would more 'hop' across the gravel and i swiched the net and the current carried him into the net, i thought nothing of it and placed him with the others, today i noticed for the 6th day in a row he never came to the top to eat, insted looked among the debres on the floor for good food to eat, he hasnt grown much like the others and i realized he probly would never swim, i would keep him comfortable and fed and hopefully he would grow strong and be able to swim on his own, for the next few day and or weeks i will be monitering him

Not exactly sure what to tell you to help the poor little fellow, except to prehaps try something like liquidfry to feed him directly, not sure if it would help him but couldn't hurt, and at least the little guy's trying to look for food which is a good sign at least. Good luck with him and would love to hear how he goes.

i put him in my 10 gallon fry tank and lucky for me he stays under a large rock where thereis no gravel, i just cleaned out his tank, when i took some water from the 10 gallon so it was not going to shock him he hid and i saw him on his tail like a seahorse when i catch him and put him back into the 1 gallon which is now half full i will get out my mag-glass and see if he has pectoral fins, i think thats his problem, can i feed him frozen brine shrimp juce? it is like liquifry only my fish like this better or maybe the juce from blood worms or veggy juce, can i feed him that? he likes it when i feed my fry frozen ABS they like it and they can suprizingly eat it whole, well my newborns cant but my 6 week olds can

I've never heard of belly slider before but glad to hear that he is at least eating something. I know a lot of people would give up on him or use him as a feeder for other fish. But I personally would like to commend you for your efforts and i'm afraid i would be doing the exact same thing you are doing too. The fish is still a living thing and should be treated as such. So Well done I just hope it all works out for you and him as well.

thanx, i cheked to day and 1 of my swords died for some reason but he is still fighting on, i saw him keeping the other babys away from the food on the floor, he is guite mobile he hopps across the bottom like a puppy with out working legs, kind of reminds me of something i saw on animal planet, about tonka, thats who he reminds me of i am thinking that he will never be able to have gravel and i think i may decide to have him live either alone or if i get another dissabled fish they can be buddies, i dont want him being picked on by anything, so what about a name? i cant tell if theres a gravid spot yet so it may be a male and i think it is the only survior from all the mysterys' i cant tell if the other ones are just bigger or died and were eaten, i am clueless but im happy to have him, is there anything else i can do for him?

fishyhelper288, i wasn't sure on a name so i asked my daughter who is 8, who has been following this post from when i first read it and has been quite concerned for your poor little fish and has constantly said to me "mummy i hope that lady's fish will be ok." any way to the chase my daughter Kiarni thinks your little guy should be called miracle or mira for short. On the other side of things i'm not really sure that there is anything else you can do for him, i highly doubt that any medications would help him, but as far as i can tell your doing everything you possibly can, your making sure he gets fed, making sure he's safe and that he's comfortable. Really i think that's all you can do. Apart from that i'm not sure if it's accepted or not but when my fish are sick i sometimes add a tiny pinch of salt to the tank. Don't know if any of this helps but like i said before it couldn't hurt.

I am so sorry to hear about the little tyke. But he obviously wasn't strong enough like you said, and you did everything that you could do for him. I know this is off the track a bit but my cat was sick and then she started eating and i was starting to get a bit of relief and thought she's getting better i'll take her to the vet in the morning, but she had died before morning. So whilst it is a good sign that they are eating, means that they are still fighting and still trying, unfortunately they don't always work the way we think.

Good luck with your new fry that you already have though. Maybe if you can get some disabled fry you'll be able to share your experiences with the rest of us here in case other people end up with the same problems.
