I have a 15 gal tall tank with two female platies and one male platy. The male seems to be overly aggressive to only one female. He chases her all over the tank while paying no attention to the other female. Should I get another female? The female that he doesn't mess with is a female we got to stop the aggression in the first place. Any suggestions are appreciated.

i had this, only i started with 1 male and 2 females, then added a third female. he killed the 3rd female, wouldnt let the other 2 near each other.he kept one on one side of the tank, the other on the opposite side of the tank. i tried another female, he again killed her.

what i did to stop it i DO NOT, repeat, Do NOT recommend doing, as chances are it would never happen again.!!!! i put one of my community friendly bettas in the tank. he claimed one corner, let the females in it, but not the male platy. this gave both the girls a break. after a few weeks the male quit trying to seperate the girls, and i took the male betta out . its been fine since.
i tried this because this betta was fine in a community tank before as long as all the fish were female, if it was a male, he wouldnt let it in his territory.

Short of this id add lots of hidding places ( plants) for the girls to hide in, to get away from the male.

He is only being aggressive to one of the females (the original one actually). She was even in a breeding net for the last 4 days while she had his fry. He started chasing her as soon as she was taken out of the net.

There are plenty of plants and she is constantly hiding from him, but he hunts her out.

I have exactly the same thing happening right now. My tank is still cycling and also has 15+ frys in it. But otherwise, just the 3 platies (2f/1m). The poor girl that he is chasing, hides under everything. She finds refuge near the top of the tank, as he doesn't normally go there. I feel bad for her. I can just see her little heart beating so fast. And if he even comes near her, she freaks out.

The male also has a black spot on his anal fin. Is this a sign of breeding? (forgive the stupid question )

What was everyone's suggestions on this behavior?

Yes..

Remove the male from the tank.. Change the decor all around, perhaps add more.. Then add 2 more female platys and put the male back in.. Your problem will be solved
