I realized it was fry! So at first i tried to get it with a fish net, so that i can put it in a separate jar, but i couldn't get it. Then I saw another one, and i realized that it must be one of my platys giving birth. It was confirmed (i think) when she hid for a second and went away, and i saw a baby swimming away. I def saw3, but then i saw a gourami eat one. I put the suspected mother in a small jar (sorry bout that, have nothing else right now), so maybe she'll have more. Plus i took all the shells and the tank, and arranged them in a way that there are hiding places underneath them UPDATE: my sister just caught a baby, and i just put him in a plastic cup Crossing fingers for more Maybe i'm wrong about the mother I'll keep you updated |

If all else fails and you have no where else try using some soft netting (not wire) and fixing it to the corners of your tank and putting some pebbles into the middle so that it hangs down in a V, this way you can put the mother in the top and they babies will be safe underneath. It's a pain at feeding time but i tried this once when i couldn't stop my guppies eating the babies and I saved quite a few. Good luck with the babies though, the fun's just starting. |

I'm on my second liter and having a blast watching them grow.. they are soooo cool!! I too would try to seperate the fry from the adult fish... the netting idea above would work good... till they are big enough to not be eat'n ... Dave |

After i saw a gourami eat one, i saw a gourami play with another dead body (swallowing it and spitting it back out over and over again). The suspected mother didn't have any more fry in the jar, is it possible that since it was probably only her first litter that she only had like 5? I hope maybe some of the other fry I saw are hiding somewhere, but i don't think it's likely. I need to get a net breeder, but the problem is, that i was gonna get one anyways and from the pictures i've seen on fish profiles, my fish didn't look that pregnant, if not unpregnant at all! |
