One of my very FAT pregnant platys is in labour but I am concerned by her behaviour and more so, her movements. Compared to the labour my other 2 females have had, she's either having a hard time of it or just wants the whole community to know about it. Instead of finding a place in the tank to be without bother she's making a point of being in company and instead of my male hanging around her (attraction to the hormone release) when she nears him, he chases her away.
As for her movements, I'll do my best to explain: her whole body moves from side to side (as they do, and its best described I guess as fish tail moves) but she's not going anywhere. She does this for some time then moves on to any spot there are other fish. Sometimes she hovers nose first into one of the plants, doing this movement.
I haven't seen her birth any fry yet (have spotted 2 though hiding in gravel), but she has a whispy thin almost transparent trail hanging off her.
Any suggestions, thoughts or educated guesses greatly appreciated.

Wow sounds like she is having a hard time. Your interrupption (such as moving her or touching her) might completely stress her out. I know it is hard but first try to let nature take its course. Labour can be a long process. As long as the other fish arent bugging her, Its best to leave her with them.

I forgot to add, turning the heat up in the tank a degree or two (no more) might help her also.

Its all I can do is to leave her alone as I have no other tank to place her in. She hasn't calmed any since I posted this message. I've been watching constantly for last 10 mins and feel helpless.

She may be having problems due to an unnoticeable deformatie, or maybe she just takes longer than normally.
