I have a Ten Gallon that will be empty pretty soon, and I would like to restock it with some Live Bearers. What would work well, and how many can I put in. I am planning to add a couple of Ottos for Algae Control and will most likely have a Betta in there as well. Nothing to large though as I would like a small school. Ideas?

HI! I would stick with the Betta and 2 ottos for the 10 gallon. Unless you can find something real small like the Endlers, everything else gets too big IMO. The common Livebearers like platys and mollies will not be comfortable in a 10 gallon. Another reason is that the livebearers will quickly overpopulate the tank (Guppys) unless you get only one sex. I think alot of folks will tell you the 10 gallon really limits you on what you can stock. Later!

Maybe you can consider some Shrimps.

I'm not certain about the livebearers but if you put in 4 ottos don't forget to feed them. The tank will never produce enough algae by itself for that many. The 3 I put in my 29g had it spotless in under a week. Now I put in an algae wafer every 3 days. You can use Wardley or Hikari they seem to like both. There are also others that feed them regular veggies like zuchinni and peas.

29g - 5 Head and Tail Light Tetras, 1 Black Phantom Tetra, 1 melanistius cory, 1 Featherfin Synodontis, 1 otto
29g - 14 harlequin rasboras, 5 albino corys, 3 ottos
10g - 1 glowlight tetra, 2 Black phantom tetras, 1 red betta on entertainment center

Id go for amano shrimp, if the algae runs out they will content themselves by scavenging the odd bit of fish food, and still be there when the algae comes back. Ottos often dont take to artificial diets well and you can do without the pollution of chunks of vegetables in a 10 gal.

A ten is a bit small for a trio of otos IMHO. They are rather sensitive to water chemistry.

Male guppies would be a colorful addition to the tank.
