sneaky_peate, my breeder dwarf platies, is with me almost 2 years for now. and i did mention the max size is 2 inches. but not for the male, it's for female, we all know that the male is bit smaller than female platy. the average size of my female platies as of now is 1.5-1.75 inches. this is fully grown, and has a big belly, like a balloon. i've been breeding and selling this for almost 2 years.

I have one male dwarf platy and he is a stinker. He is constantly harrassing the other fish, who are 2-3 times his size.

When I was at the LFS, I saw a pregnant dwarf platy who was about 1/2 inch long.

I saw some Red Coral Platys in the LFS today,
however they were the same size as all the other platys- large.

Perhaps they are not really red coral platys?

I also have never heard of dwarf platies. But, maybe they just haven't arrived in North America yet.

Anybody know anything about them? I am assuming they are similar to regular ones, but just don't get as big.

Not paying much and if anything they are cheaper than regular platies. Only $.99 here. Anyhow, they don't really look like platy fry. They have full adult characteristics and they are about half the size of normal. I have seen them numerous times at the same size in different stores, so I am thinking that this is their normal size. They have a orange-red coloration with no black in the fins.

Personally, I have never heard of a Dwarf Platy.
2 inches is the max size for a normal adult male platy, nowhere near "dwarf".
I would suspect if you did get some females, that given about 1 and a half years, the females will mature at 3- 3.5 inches the same as any other platy.
What I think you are buying is just very young normal platys. I think you are getting ripped off if you are paying more than normal prices for them. My guess is that they are about 3-4 month old platy fry passed off as dwarf.
