I bought three Endlers today, and I must say that I am so smitten with them! They are absolutely beautiful! Anyways, I noticed that these little guys are really sticking together around the tank. Are Endlers more inclined to stick together because of their distinct patterning? I know pattern recognition is why most fish school. Has anyone ever seen this type of behavior in there Endlers? I am just curious because I plan on buying more of these little cuties

i keep endlers in there own tank, so they dont really need to form a school, so i think they only school if they feel scared like with most fish. so it would make sense if there are other larger fish in the tank, they would want to school.

Fish that exhibit that type of "sometimes schooling" behaviour are known as schoaling fish. I cannot think of any livebearer that I'd say with certainty is a schooling fish, but most fish tend to stick together in unfamiliar situations like yours are doing.

My response would be that I've never seen any kind of schooling behaviour with my Endlers, except, as kmlubahn has pointed out, when interested males are ganging up on the females- which is pretty much all the time actually... I tend not to watch at all anymore...

I HAVE AN PERSONAL HYPOTHESIS, I think that if you give em a lot of space they can school. Because in the summer I had an 100g pond with xiphophorus variatus and the schooled.

I think they schooled a little because they were introduced to a new environment and tank. My guppies did this when they were introduced into my tank
