i resently was at my lfs and baught feeder guppys. (SO I THOUGHT) when i put them in my feeder keeping tank i noticed they werent guppy fry like i was told. i looked them up and low and behold they were endlers. i learned how rare they are. since i have saved maybe 3 dozen, (spaced out between my 3 tanks.) now i have fry as well. i was wondering how i might save the ones i have. there are no clubs or alike in my area. what do i do.

Can you get a picture of them? It is a possibility that they may be a endler-guppy hybrid.

It is also possible that they are just plain feeder guppies, which a lot of people think look like Endler's Livebearers.

its pretty likely that they are hybrids, as von dutch suggested. any pictures you can inclue would be much appreciated. i still to this day have never seen endlers ANYWHERE, so if you've got the real thing, you could prolly make some $$$$

ive been doing alot of reserch and ive found that the endler and the wild guppy also sold as a feeder guppy because of its lack of fancy tail are acually the same fish. same scientific names. same area...sooo

I used to feed them to my ropefish. The lfs in my hometown had a 55g filled with hundreds of them. Endler's guppies are just the more brightly colored strain of wild guppies. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/evolution/sex/guppy/low_bandwidth.html I didn't know that they were rare or endangered exactly. I see them all the time. They're just bred for more color, kind of like a not-so-fancy guppy. Colorful but not flashy yet. The wild Endler's aren't as colorful as the aquarium version. Also, I think their natural habitat is being destroyed by pollution. So maybe it will be impossible to get them wild caught. But with the way they breed, I have no doubt they won't disappear completely, unless everyone that has some just flushes them all.

Endler's guppies are just the more brightly colored strain of wild guppies.
There is quite some debate about this statement. Here is my spin on the situation:

I think by now the common ground for all is that Endlers are Guppies, even this has not been accepted for the longest. Most though think that Endlers are a separated group of wild guppies that is on the brink of extinction in the wild (pollution and so forth). Once this group is gone from the wild it would be impossible to "generate" Endlers out of other wild guppies. The survival of them would then solemnly depend on the hobby. Endlers have not been that popular in the hobby for a long time as the tank raised guppies stole the show. In general, fish in the hobby tend to go through periods of more or less popularity, and if the Endlers become less popular than they are now then there is a good chance that this would be the end of them.
