Breed like crazy...so i got some more of them to add to the gene pool.. so they wouldnt get so inbred. I also think i picked up some hybrids.. fancy guppy crossed w/endlers. very colorful tails.. but the body of an endler...i even have some males that have swords on their tails! Cool huh! 72 gallon bowfront:Tanganyikan Lake set up 75 gallon: A. Baenschi trio,Cyanotilapia Afra Cobwe(4), copadichromis trewavase, protomelas sp. tangerine tiger(breeding pair) |

Very hardy little guy and it's funny to watch him chase the females who are at least twice his size This isn't a good picture because he was in a bowl acclimating until I could identify him, but it gives a good idea of his coloring: Theresa_M attached this image: ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

houston Fish Guru You want what when? Posts: 2623 Kudos: 2462 Votes: 337 Registered: 29-Mar-2003 | I wonder where I could get some of the wild guppies in my area. I've seen pictures of them, and really enjoy my fancy guppies, and their fry are are colorless, literally clear when born, and then turn a grayish...I love watching my fancies "get their colors". It really is fun, check them in the morning, then evening, and sometimes in that little bit of time they will have developed their coloring ...I myself think I'll look closer to the fry that a lot of the lfs end up with, and see how much they would want for them...Got an empty 20 why not, right? Forever-mango Fish Addict Posts: 611 Kudos: 586 Votes: 35 Registered: 01-Dec-2003 | Most of the babies I get are colourless, the nice ones get placed in the display tank while the others are placed in my friends pond at the back of this place. He just has a pond full of guppies They look nice when it comes to feeding time. |

fish1 Banned Posts: 1727 Kudos: 1910 Votes: 58 Registered: 09-May-2004 | They are fine to keep, but they have a good chance of having a disease cause of the conditions they are kept in! They are like 10cents at my lfs so quite a bit cheaper from 3$.The ones at my lfs are very colorful and for some reason usally blue. |

Forever-mango Fish Addict Posts: 611 Kudos: 586 Votes: 35 Registered: 01-Dec-2003 | To me feeder guppies are just young guppies that get traded in. The lfs near where I live sell local guppies as feeders no matter what colour they are, and imported guppies as normal guppies. They have no difference, but only in price. Here, Imports are $3.95 while feeders are 50cents each. Usually I check at the feeder guppy tanks first then I move to the Imports. Through my experience feeders are more hardy as they can be placed in cold water, but imports must need heaters. It would be nice to have a nice big tank full of nice feeders, they are cheap and are nice. No one said you cant have feeders as pets. I do! So, why cant you? Hehe. All the best Steve |

Cheshire Cat Fingerling Posts: 47 Kudos: 57 Votes: 4 Registered: 01-May-2004 | I was wondering if Feeder Guppies can make good pets. I think they're so cute and pretty, I would like to own some. But I have a few questions first. Being bred specifically for being food, do they have a short lifespan or any common diseases? What size do they grow to? What do they eat? I'm confuzzled... Are there any good sites out there about owning feeder guppies as pets? Thanks! |

cichlidiot Hobbyist Posts: 142 Registered: 14-Apr-2004 | I think they make great pets. These fish are very inexpensive for large groups, undemanding in their care(other than the usual), and very hardy. The only way I would use these fish as feeders is if I had a chance to weed out the diseased ones and then gutload the rest. But I really think they are better off as pets |

rewd Big Fish Posts: 351 Votes: 0 Registered: 29-Aug-2003 | FishyCharacter, I agree that they are hardier then fancy. A couple years ago I was loosing interest in the aquarium hobby so for quite sometime before I ended up fishless I kept regular feeder guppies. Don't exactly remember how I came about getting them but they were neat fish to keep, if not all that pretty. As said before they are basically just like the fancy variety except, IMHO, they are hardier and much less colorful. |

I rescued a 25 gal tank full of them, i mean there had to be 100 guppies in there. no filter, no heat, no airstone. noone had been in this house for a month.my boss said to throw away anything they left. i threw out the guppies and tank to the car! They were some pretty hardy fish. Had them for several years ( after i did some drastic population reduction- ) then my kids who were little at the time killed them off by dumping a 3 liter bottle of pepsi in the tank- they thought they wanted a drink. They didnt have the pretty tails like fancies, but some got very colorful.neat fish. |

zachjc_14 Enthusiast Posts: 205 Kudos: 211 Votes: 24 Registered: 20-Apr-2004 | Fedders are extremely hardy as they are extremely genetically diverse unlike fancy guppies. Although they do not take well to constantly changing temperatures(the small ones) the large ones will grow to be beautiful- one of my females is .5 of an inch or more |
