Second of all, guppies make nice treats for the oscar. Guppies, as long as they're not the staple diet, provide some spice to the "normal" oscar food. Live guppies aren't bad for fish, especially if they are homebred. |

weighates Hobbyist Posts: 56 Kudos: 44 Votes: 1 Registered: 20-Jun-2005 | Ive decided to go buy a 10 gallon today and stock them with guppies. I am gonna put a filter I current have running on my 29g for it as well as gravel from the 29g tank in it so It shouldnt have to cycle much. I was wondering how many guppies I could put in there and still have room for breeding and what ob Thanks, Chris |

So_Very_Sneaky Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3238 Kudos: 2272 Votes: 201 Registered: 10-Mar-2004 | Um, You didnt just buy the tank and set it up and toss in 6 guppies? They wont survive the cycle. :-( Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |

weighates Hobbyist Posts: 56 Kudos: 44 Votes: 1 Registered: 20-Jun-2005 | well. I went to buy the 10g today but there was a problem. The total was only like $43 dollars with everything. Well I couldnt have that so I went with a 29g with a stand....... gf was really upset LOL!!! That'll teach her to let me goto fish store alone . So I got a 29g and like 6 females and 2 males. Gonna put fake plants in this tank cause I got real plants in my other 29g and I CANNOT get rid of the Green water algae. THanks, Chris PS - This guppy breeding tank is basically to make some feeder fish for my oscar. He loves chansing those things around his tank Last edited by weighates at 27-Jul-2005 01:50 |

houston Fish Guru You want what when? Posts: 2623 Kudos: 2462 Votes: 337 Registered: 29-Mar-2003 | If I were you I wouldn't go guppies in a 10 gallon But, if you are going to, find 1 male that you really like, and 2 females...throw in some plants; I like anacharis (I can't kill it is why) plant some and let some float...then stand back and watch...I suspect you will be overstocked in 2-3 months...You could actually just get 2 females and they usually come prepregnated, and will stay that way for 6 months, by then you are bound to have males to helpI know I had a picture somewhere to show the difference but since i can't find it here is a verbal desc "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." djtj Fish Master Posts: 1764 Kudos: 885 Votes: 49 Registered: 20-Feb-2003 | Seriously, 3 fish is all you need. I'd just stock the 29(I'm assuming you teared it down) with some kind of fish, like angelfish, that will eat the excess fry as you will have a full tank very soon. |

katieb Fish Addict Posts: 697 Votes: 69 Registered: 03-Jul-2004 | Id put 2 females and a male. Guppies breed like crazy and give birth to live young. Fake plants will help the fry survive. Tenn gallons isnt a whole lot, so be prepared to move the fry somewhere when the tank gets crowded. I'll do graffiti, If you sing to me in French. |
