My wife picked up 3 dwarf platies today from petsmart. 2 of them look the same the 3rd is a little lighter colored and a bit smaller.

My question is how do you sex them?

Click on the article at the top of this forum. Sneaky Pete wrote it up and it's tacked to the top.

Have fun, Mike

Colors rarely have anything to do with sexing livebearers..except maybe, stress the maybe, with sailfin mollies.

Chances are the platties are fully grown yet, or they are stunted...sorry to say.

Next, I'm attaching some a photo of a male and a female picture of guppies, though they are not platties, their sex organs look the same. The area circled in red is the fin you need to compare with...Fan shaped is female, pencil shaped is male...

Also when full grown you will notice that the female is larger than the male...Heidi

One more shot at this...

By "dwarf platy" do you mean baby platies or like a different breed that's smaller than regular platies? I've never heard of dwarf platies, but I'd like some.

As far as I know, there is no such thing as a dwarf platy. Most likely they are just young platies that still have some growing to do. Seriously, how much smaller could a "dwarf" platy be? At full size platies only hit about 2.5", and sometimes not even that big.

I bought some "dwarf platies" a while back, thinking they were really cute and all. Now they're just regular old platies .

I have a dwarf platy. He is a smaller version that I believe only grows to about an inch and a half. He is absolutely adorable and very active. The only color they come in as far as I know is red coral. He is now only about 1/2 inch and is very easy to sex.
