You should make a post in the fish hospital so the pros in here can help you better. To allow them to help you best, test your water, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, ph etc.. And any environmental factor you can think of such as temp, size of tank, how many fish, # of times you water change and how much, how many times you feed etc.. Have you added any new fish recently, any recent losses of fish and symptoms ? I hope your guppies get well soon. The Amazon Nut... |

How many different recognized isolated fin shape types are possible? A master of guppies, but I do not see you listed as a member of the American Livebearer Association. Why not? It is the recognized authority in the United States where you could share a lot of your knowledge. Any current strains you are working on and any for sale? Pics of your breeding setups? Tips for the beginning breeders out there? Koi Empty chairs at empty tables, the room silent, forlorn. |

The males are very readyto breed. Sea salt will aid their health, the box will tell you how much to put, and the ten gallon will be perfect. You'll have to get rid of some after a while because your population will rise faster than you think. You'll want a well planted side of the tank and alot of swiming space. To save the most babies you'll want a liveberrer baby catcher(i don;t remember the name of it)just put the female into it and youll be fine. -NewBreeder16 if i left something out just say so. NewBreeder16 Hobbyist Posts: 149 Kudos: 94 Votes: 16 Registered: 11-Feb-2005 | To: bettachris Its hard to tell what you'll get. Most of the time you get some of your mother and father colors with some combinations here and there. tails will usually be half and half on their shape. -NewBreeder16 _______________________________________________ You can call me Newb too, since I'm not nere new any more. |

NewBreeder16 Hobbyist Posts: 149 Kudos: 94 Votes: 16 Registered: 11-Feb-2005 | To: Hello Fishy The only thing aggressive about guppies is thire want to breed. Males will try to"breed" almost anything if no females are pressent. That is most likely what was going on. -NewBreeder16 hope that helps _______________________________________________ You can call me Newb too, since I'm not nere new any more. |

I have one small male guppy, and three swordtails, one male, two female. But the guppy has to be put into another tank-because it attacks my male swordtail! Is the guppy just aggressive? Or is there somthing wrong? I hope you know the answer. |

kitten Fish Guru Meow? Posts: 2266 Kudos: 2194 Votes: 19 Registered: 18-Nov-2003 | Nicely done. Drat, and here I wanted to stump you... not that I had any terribly hard questions. Fishy - I'd like to point out that your ____'s will look a different size on different monitors. Pull out a ruler and take a measurement instead. My screen is set at 1600x1200, which means I can fit four of the normal 800x600 sized screenshots into the same space. It also means that things appear smaller. My girl was a decent sized, but certainly not of monster proportions. I just don't know what happened, because she showed no signs of illness. *shrugs* ~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~ |

NewBreeder16 Hobbyist Posts: 149 Kudos: 94 Votes: 16 Registered: 11-Feb-2005 | Ok, they average life span is 4-5 years(if cared for extra extra well) the colors of your first question would be a few mixed colors and a few of each of the original colors*takes a deep breath* and the final question is a toss up.*lets out rest of air*. That was a harder question than what i thought was coming. -NewBreeder16 _______________________________________________ You can call me Newb too, since I'm not nere new any more. |

kitten Fish Guru Meow? Posts: 2266 Kudos: 2194 Votes: 19 Registered: 18-Nov-2003 | If you mix bright orange/yellow females with pastel males (one each baby blue, pink and yellow) what will the resulting fry look like? Cause those are my new guppies, and I wonder what will come of the females, which I assume are pregnant. As for line breeding... if say, third generation of line breeding throws more wild-color males than fancies, what are the odds of one of those wilds - when bred back to his fancy sisters - will throw fancies? I've only got the one male left from my original spat of breeding, and am pondering letting him loose amongst his sisters. For that matter, why would all the females have been the yellow leopard print while the males were a mix of wild and leopard? Have I stumped you yet? How about average lifespan? I had my eldest girl for 1.5+ years and all of a sudden, found her dead with no obvious signs of why. And she wasn't even overbred like some guppies... she had maybe four drops her entire life, all early on. She was healthy one day and dead the next. So... riddle me that! ~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~ |
