Guppies. Peaceful? Playful? Agressive? | |
Altpower Fingerling Posts: 29 Kudos: 22 Votes: 10 Registered: 25-Nov-2003 | Every time I read about guppies I'm told how peaceful they are, But I've got a 25gal tank with 6 glowlight tetras and 2 guppies (one adult and one baby) and I find the guppies pick at the tetras. I'm not sure if I should be concerned about it because they dont appear to be doing any damage to the fins of the tetras and the tetras dont seem stressed out. But I wonder if any of you guys have incounter this kind of nipping from guppies? |

Just keep an eye on them & see how it goes. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://groups.yahoo.com/group/buzaqq/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

I've found if you get more male guppies (if you don't want any breeding going on ) they will tend to stick with their own species at least and bother the other fish less. Guppies aren't generally defined as shoaling fish but they are very social and definitely benefit from the company of their own species. Try getting a few more males, they could be feeling "happy." If that doesn't work then I agree with what has been said above, sometimes they can just be a bit bossy. |

I know mine scour any alge in the tank (had mine going 2 years with NO alge at all.) Its nothing really to worry about, my male guppy tries to interupt my male molly from mating with the other females. But I just got the guppy 2 girlfriends so that will hopefully stop soon. In any event guppies are too small to do any damage to any fish in the aquarium. Even my fry are safe near mine |
