Guppy Fry | |
tetratech Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 4241 Kudos: 1074 Registered: 04-Nov-2003 | My son has a 12gallong guppy tank. 2 Males and 2 Females, but everytime they have fry they all get eaten. The tank has alot of java moss in and other plants, but none survive. The adults guppies are very healthy and haven't lost any since the tank was setup about 5 months ago. If I take the fry out and put in a large container with no heater, will they survive. The temp would be around 68f to 70f. My Scapes |

Yes they should be able to live in that as long as you did water changes, kept the temp stable in the room, ect, ect. Now for the sucky part. Keeping them like that will hinder their growth. We find that keeping the fry around 82F helps them to grow a whole lot faster.. But it is def something to do until they get bigger. You know you can also just use some of those breeder nets. Keep in mind, not letting the fry live might not be a bad idea. It is after all just a 12gal tank, and will become over run with gups very fast. |

I did have a net, but they always fall apart and take up too much space in a 12 gallon. I just want to keep them in their for about 10 days until they get alittle size. Is their growth hindered from the start with lower temp or after a month or so. Last edited by tetratech at 02-Mar-2005 12:27 My Scapes |

The guppy fry that have the warm water from the very begining grow faster. My step mother's guppies were born 2 weeks before mine and mine are already twice as big as hers because she has them in a smaller tank with out a heater. Shannen is right, if the fry do not get eaten you will have had them quickly overstock you. |
