Guppy Problem | |
Oscar_Jewel Fingerling Posts: 45 Kudos: 28 Votes: 0 Registered: 24-Jul-2005 | If fancy guppies are so easy to keep why am I having such a problem???? Except for 2 - 3 males the ones that I started with or evan add now die. They start with a wobble and seem too have an increasing problem with moving forward, then they drop to the bottom and die. Some of them developed a whiteish spot that appears to be on the inside of them between the anal fin and the tail. Alot of the females developed this problem after they had babies. The funny thing is that all the babies seem to be fine and growing normally. The temp in their 10 gallon hovers around 80 - 82 because it is warm outside, the ph is 7+. The ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates are good also!!!! What's up with that????? |

It is caused by spots that appear in the muscle tissue, only spreads to guppies, and often can kill a whole tank full. There is no known treatment. Best option is to euthanize any fish that shows symptoms before it can pass it on to other guppies. I suspect it may be sexually transmitted, as to why your fish havent passed it on. I had a run of this disease once brought on by a new fish. It wiped out about 12 guppies before I started Euthanizing affected fish. Once all the affected fish were gone, no more fish got the disease. Guppies may be easy to keep, but they are often riddled with diseases caused by decades of inbreeding. Your best option is to euthanize affected fish, and rebuild your stock from Local Breeders. Their fish are often much more genetically sound and healthier! Good Luck.
