I think another question to ask would be how old are they when they start to breed.

I could be wrong, but I really don't think fish keep geneology lineage in check...

Once the fry are big enough they will mate with each other. You could try to seperate them by removing males as they begin to get color but even then it might be too late. Guppies, especially those of a particular strain are mate to close reatives all the time. It's how they keep the fish looking the same.

Good luck, Mike

I too would just try to separate them as soon as you can tell the male from the female. This can be done even before they start getting their color in their tail fin.

This can be done by looking at the underneath of their belly close to where the tail fin starts. The females will get a black spot, the males will not (called a gravid spot). If you wait until the males start getting color (depending on what kind of guppies you have, some types of males will get colors before others at least in my experience) it may already be too late. They are not ready to really breed until about 4 months old, anytime before that is too soon.
