What are the reasons a female guppy would chase and nip the tail of the male guppy?He is losing his huge tail ,little by little..

What size is the tank?
How many fish are in this tank?
What is the ratio of males to females?
If the ratio of males to females is too high, such as more males than females, the females could become aggressive to the males, or male, who harrass her most often, or even just the most likely target (ie, the male with the largest tail who is the easiest to catch n beat on cuz he is slow).
Could be you just have an aggressive female.
Maybe she has PMS?

I am new at this ,I know I am at or over my limit ,need to go get another tank.My ratio is 1:1 right now ,as I am awaiting my fry to grow ,so hopefully the ratio will sway with me (fingers crossed)This female has been in this tank for 2 months ,since I bought it.She had another male ,that she always chased ,then we went out of town for 5 days ,only to return to a dead male guppy.The male before that got along great with her,just the last one and this one she has problems with .
Specs
My tank is 20 gal
Mill 2000 filter
a pair of platies
a pair of guppies
a pair of black mollies
2 albino cory cats(had 5 3 died last month)
2 blue dwarf gouramies
Red tail shark
3 neons
3 platy fry
3 guppy fry
1 clam

Like I said ,Its a new hobby for me ,and when I started ,I didnt know alot ,as apparently my lfs hires people who have no buisiness working there.Who pass along all the wrong advice to people.ie,like me...So I need to go buy another tank and cycle it ,and get my ratios correct...
Only noticeable difference in the tank is the one she liked
had a tail very similar to hers in colors.Where as these 2 are totally different than her in colors,other than that the population hasnt went up ,actually down from when she had the one she liked...
Or it could be like you said ,PMS...

Mongoose, you have asked a very good question. I have 2 males to 5 females and one of my males keep getting its tail nibbled on. I think the female dislikes the male or something like that...hehe

But, seriously I got have any idea why females should do this to males.

I think your tank looks ok for stocking. But I think you should 1 more each female guppy, platy, and molly.
They would jump for joy if you did!
Another idea like you said is getting another tank.
I had guppies and platies in a 10g. They got too many cuz of fry. Now they have a 25g tall tank all to themselves !
I look forward to the day they will move into a 55g and then....?
Muli tank syndrome indeed.
Anyway I think it is cuz you just have no enough females. I have noticed female guppies to hang out together, to withstand the constant "attacks" of the males. My 2 largest females will go back to back to keep the boys away when they are not in the mood. I think your females just need some friends!

Thanks a bunch Sneaky ,I figured that is what it was.Hopefully my fry will sway the ratio,if I can wait that long,If not I will go buy a couple more females.We feel she just doesnt like him and he doesnt pester her either.
