I am rising my first fish fry... hehe. fish fry... Anyway, they are guppies and I'm feeding them frozen bbs, baby brine srimp. Also you will want to get a 5 doller hachery to put them in. My gubby mothers would eat the fry so I have her in a 10g and catch the fry before the powerfilter sucks them up or get eating. Feed them small but decent feeding 3 to four times a day. Hope this helps!

also, if you have a filter that would suck them up and spit them out... you should put pantyhose or netting around the intake.

I have about a dozen week old guppies (oy, this must be the hundreth batch). I don't do anything special, and several seem to survive. You can just keep them in the community tank. If you provide cover like floating plants, many fry will survive. You can also crush flake food for them to eat. Feed them often, at least 3 times a day. Make sure you keep up on maientenance because all that food you feed them will go bad in the tank if not eaten.

Don't worry too much--you'll have fish coming our of your ears. I don't do a thing, and many fish survive.

It's very exciting. They will grow really fast--you'll have full grown platies in no time.

Have fun!

I have most of my I think. About 22 or 3. The mom is still going to spit more out soon from what I understand. This will be my only allowed breeding. I wasn't planning on keeping guppies and then this lady gives me a fat female and 2 days later I am breeding expert. Male, go to your corner! Female, go to yours! I am going to be giving this whole first batch a nice life home however. Almost feeding time!

If you don't want any more fry, just leave her in the community tank, and most will probably get eaten. I left my females guppies in the community tank, but every couple months one or two would survive to become adults. Livebearers give birth very often, about once a month. If you feel you want to keep the fry, just wait until next month.

Does it hurt to have fry go up the power filter decompose or does it actually help the nitrogen cycle?

Whenever you see a dead fish in the tank/filter, you should take it out. All that the nitrogen cycle needs to get started is fish (ammonia). A dead/rotting fish will just make an imbalance and screw around with the levels of ammonia/nitrite/nitrate.

If you don't want fry going up the filter, you can cover the intake with a sponge (such as filter media for an aquaclear filter) or pantyhose.
