Hello all

I had a 26 g tank for 8 months but a month ago i got a bigger one ( 80 g) . I moved most of the fishes to the new tank... so the small one now is running only with 4 khuli loaches ( i couldn't catch them ) .... i decided to keep the small one too and stock it with guppies...but how many can i put in there? and in what ratio of m/f?

thankss

Just make a note... guppies reproduce like MAD... You could start out with 1M/2-3F and you'd easily stock the tank by yourself within a month or two if the fry survive. I know my guppies didn't eat their own progeny, so I had to make sure I population control (danios, in this case). I don't know if your khulis would eat the fry or not

You could also try JUST males (or just females, though most prefer the more colorful males) if you don't want fry coming out of the woodwork. Also, depending on how big your guppies are (assume about 1 1/2" to 2" full sized), you could figure out stocking from there. I have NO idea how to figure the kuhlis into your stocking, so you're on your own for that.

Also, keep in mind that generally, female guppies are sold pregnant, unless they've managed to keep them separate from the males. *shrugs*

About one adult per gallon is a good guideline. I would suggest you start with two males and four females. This will give you a good gene pool and insurance in case a fish dies. I suppose that if you can get all you want of what you want for cheap all males would be good eye candy.
The behavior is tiresome for me. I prefer to have at least some females in the tank. Two pair would work or even just the right female. I do not know about the fish you already have. They may have your guppies for lunch the first day.

thank you both for replying

i prefer having males and females, so ill stick to your advice and start with 2-3 males and 4-6 females.
There wont be any fish tha could harm the guppies in that tank, only the khulis.

thanks again

Can you get 2 males & 4 females & within a few weeks you'll have lots of fry.

Both your Guppy's & Khuli's will be fine together.
