However, I know from experience that male guppies all alone with each other will often fight, which usually results in torn fins and wounds. I personally believe males should be kept with females, im sure a bunch of males going around get really loopy anyway in the head. ETA: If you go with the male/female combination, get 2 females for every 1 male so the females are picked on less by the males. Last edited by cutiepatutie at 09-May-2005 18:05 |

I have kept males in multiple numbers without females for a long time, and I have never ever experienced fighting, chasing or ripped fins. They are very friendly and love playing together. I would go with around 30 males, and maybe a pair of dwarf gouramis or something. I wouldn't pick an angel or blue gourami as they might munch up your guppies. If you want male and female, you could get 3 male and 6 female. With a lace gourami or a pair of rams to keep the babes in control. |

So_Very_Sneaky Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3238 Kudos: 2272 Votes: 201 Registered: 10-Mar-2004 | labrakitty, I have been keeping Guppies for almost 2 years now, and it has always been my experience that male guppies without females inevitably try to kill each other. I have had too many male guppies almost die to attempt this. Any fish that has its number one drive being sexual activity will become stressed and angered without the access to a female- and also will try to engage in sexual activity with each other, usually resulting in more anger and ripped fins and wounds. I would recommend a male female mix, with a larger fish to keep fry numbers down. Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |
