Hello. I have a mommy platy that just gave birth to her second batch of fry on Sat. (her second batch in my tank anyway) She seems aggrivated with the father of the babies. She darts after him angrily. They have been together in the tank for a little over two months now, and have always gotten along fine.

Is she mad because he ate most of the fry or because she doesn't want him to impregnate her again. Should I add another female so that Sunkist can get some "rest". He hasn't been bothering her lately because she goes after him. He's alot smaller than her, which i suppose is ot her advantage when he's buggin her. What do you think?

ps: My setup:
10 gallon-- platy pair and three zebra danios

2.5 gallon-- 5 platy fry and an apple snail

So, I guess there's enough room for another female platy in the 10gallon. However, four of the fry are not Biscuit's (my male platy's) babies. Sunkist (my female platy) came from the store pregnant. So, i was wondering if i could add one of the female fry when she is big enough to the ten gallon so that Biscuit will have two ladies instead of one. I don't know how long it will be before a fry is big enough to add to the 10 gallon though. Four of them are a month old and one is a few days old. The ones that are a month old are NOT Biscuits kids, thus there would be no inbreeding. How old are platies when they start mating anyway?

well first off i recomend eventually getting a larger tank of 15 gallons ,or a 29, plattys have whole bunches of fry, and they can not afford to be stunted, and yes, the males are smaller, i found that fry grow 3 times fater if put in a fish net, preferably a large or extra large for platys, i had guppies in a net and some in a tank, the ones in the net fed on first bites grew and got color in 2 weeks, while the fry in the tank dident have any color for a month

With guppies and platies I always try to have a 3 to 1 female to male ratio so the girls get a break from the boy.
