Hi! We have about 100 guppy fry of varying ages. We have only identified 1 male out of all of them! Has anyone ever heard if this is a normal happening? Is it normal to have more females born than males??? It seems very strange to us! Thanks!

Well, IMO, if you have 100 fry then you may only be able to identify 1 Male right now. I mean if you have like 20 breeding nets or something and then 5 fry in each yeah you'd be able to tell then. If it's in a smalledr tank I wouldn't be surprised if they're just bypassing you and you're unable to identify them.

HMMM...I guess that could be it, but we have them divided into 2 tanks...older ones, brand new ones, etc. We sit ther a studdy them and even as the older ones get to the 1 month mark and beyond, they are all females. Very strange.
Thanks for your answer!

I find that odd, but maybe it's a good thing?

i have around 75 guppyfry, all different sizes though, and so far i only see 1 male as well. but the others are still very small. so it shouldnt be uncommon.

pH can have an affect on the sex of fry. I had this happen with Endler's and it was brought up in a talk I heard last weekend by a cichlid breeder.
