OK, I have 1m/2f neon swordtails that I want to breed. Right now they are in a 55 gal tank w/ other swordtails, and I am trying to plan out a new tank.
If I can find another male w/ the coloring, I may end up with a total of 2m/4f.

So question....what would be the smallest tank I could set up for 3 swordtails? Or 6 swordtails?

I would move the fry out of the tank. And I may try to get something bigger than the minimum, but it depends on budget.

For six swordtails, a twenty gallon would be great, and you could add a shrimp for cleanup duty. The same would go for three swords in a ten gallon.

Errrr, yeah. I forgot that they get so large...

Okay, I'm going to disagree - six very active, 4-6", heavy-set fish don't, in my opinion, belong in anything less than a 20 gallon. A 30 would be much smarter.

A 20gal. tank would be fine for your Swordtails.

Swordies get pretty big. I agree with the thirty gall statement.

Biggest Sword I've ever seen was about 4 inches. There may be some kinds that get bigger but if you don't think yours are one of them go for the 20.

Worst comes to worst, you get a bigger tank or knock it down to 1 male and 3 females.

If your butget allows go for a 29 or 30.

Have fun, Mike
