Hey guys i have 63 molly fry in my 10 gallon and i will seperate them soon.

They are only 1 month old and the males have developed their gunepodium.. I thought male mollys get those when they get to 3 months old????

The males keep chasing the females around and harass them into breeding. Is that bad? Can the females get pragnent when they are still fry themselves????

ok, from ur other post i am feeling that u have an overstocking problem, but to fix this i suggest moving the 55 into a breeding tank.

i dont see a problem with ur "faster" mollie babies.

but it is a bad thing to breed very young female livebearers, breeding too young can cause health problems, as well as a decrease of size poteintal. so it would be best to hold the females in a different tank.

````
female livebearers can store sperm and so yes, they can drop babies without a male in the tank, given that we are talking about an non virgin one.
```
and a note: mollies have a good size potiental, some reaching 6-7 inches and a ten isn't enough room for a pair, and with breeding livebearers unless u have many tanks for the young breeding shouldn't be done, so my suggestion is to return the female and get only males, that way their is no breeding.

maybe i should change that, sailfin mollies grow that big, i guess it is stuck in my head, since i only work with sailfins.

the biggest my mollies ever got was a little over two inches as well, but the sailfins on the other hand were about 5-ish.... either way with fry popping up left and right, i'd worry about overstocking as well. i guess thats why i dont "save" my fry anymore.

Sailfins reach about 4", I have never heard of a molly getting 6" or more. All mollys with the exception of balloon mollys, will easily grow past 2".
