Last night my molly girl caught my attention by swimming very erratically. This is the same molly I was sure was going to die from swim bladder problems early last month (http://www.fishprofiles.com/interactive/forums/thread.asp?id=42978 - if anyone is interested). I also had to treat her two weeks ago for what I think was pop-eye. Her eyes were clouded and literally looked like they were bugging out of her head. Fortunately, this ailment seems to have completely cleared up now too.

Anyway... I went over to see what was up. I peered into her tank only to find ............... babies .

Now I know livebearers can store sperm for up to 8 months but after all her medical problems, this came as a surprise.

Oh and by the way, I stopped counting after 50 babies !! :%)

Um... I'm not sure why you are asking for that information. No one is sick.

The babies are in the same tank as the mother but they are in a breeders net for now. I have to do some reconfiguring now that I've had this surprise delivery.

If you have alot of babies in the tank, it can alter your tank readings with the extra load.

Yeppers, I know. I do water changes in the nursery every day or other day max so I will do the same for this tank. And, as I said before, I need to do some reconfiguring. I just haven't quite figured out who to put where yet and now I have a cory who somehow managed to get his tail caught in the filter last night (how ? I have no idea since the intake is half way up the back of the tank
) so he needs a quiet place to rest and hopefully heal. The best solution is to find the platy "toddlers" a new home (read LFS) now that they are old enough. The problem - convincing my 5-year-old to let them go <sigh]

I guess the main point of my post other than to brag about my new additions was to say - don't give up hope on a sick fish (unless, of course, it is suffering). Almost everyone told me my molly would not survive her swim bladder problems. Yet, she not only survived without the addition of any medications (other than MelaFix at the very beginning) but has now given birth to a whack of babies (50+). I just can't wait to see who the daddy is - the dalmation lyretail sailfin or the black sailfin (both have blue colouring in their tails so the babies should be interesting). Ooohhh the anticipation.

CONGRATULATIONS! To think that "Mama" - after going through all that she has - was still able to give birth --- and in such a quantity! Hope all goes well for you and her! (Let us know who "Daddy" turns out to be!)
