Hey all,

It's been awhile sense I had been here and posted.. been really busy with my DJ business and moving....

Well, to start off with, my water problem is fixed that I had a month ago, just had to let the tank cycle.. LOL

And now for the GOOD news... we just got finished moving BUT while we were moving. I drained most of the tank to transport it, (kept the water), While I was draining the tank I noticed some BABIES!!! I was like OMG!! We got babies!! At that point there wasn't much I could do except hope thay make the move... Got to the new house, set up the tank, put the old water back in. 1 day later I noticed my babies still there but there was a problem...

In my tank, I had those shiny flattened 1/2 inch marble like thing for the rock base... well, the babies were getting stuck under the rockes and could get back out... so, I decided to do some upgrading on my tank... I went to the local pet store and got an undergravel filter, a new Penguin Mini Bio Wheel Power Filter and (smaller) gravel so they couldn't get stuck under it..LOL Also got some greenery so they could hide in there instead of the rocks..

Here the fun part.. I had to take out the (bigger) gravel one by one so I wouldn't hurt the little fellas under them... that took me almost 2 hrs to get it all out.. I did find 4 live babies, 3 dead babies and numerous things that looked like it might have been a baby..

After I got all the rocks and babies out, I put the under gravel filter in.. I'm not sure if this how I should have done it, but the stuff under the original gravel, I left it and put the undergravel filter over it??? I did this for two reasons.. new gravel and new filter... I thought maybe if I leave it there and reuse the old water (after 1/4 water change), the tank might not have to cycle again??

Anyway, after 24hrs, tank looks good, babies doing good (now we can see them, water is ok, all the adult fish seem to be doing good, very active and lively.. also one of my females is preg again.. more babies to come...

Sorry for the long post... just excited out my new family additions

Dave

Congrats, test for amonia for a couple of days and do a water change if it's high. the fry don't tolerate elevated amonia well.

They are my Yellow and Black Platies ... she is the only one with black on her and they are pretty much all black with some yellow on the head ... kinda cool looking..

Dave

PS.. I got some 35mm pics of them.. I have to get the film developed and scanned and then I'll have some shots of them up..

Just noticed your signature states you have 2 CAEs. Thats going to cause big problems in a 10gallon.

Yea, I realize that.. LOL .. they are already very aggressive toward each other. I have had them sense I got the tank 6 months ago... they are now about 2 inches in length. I got them when they were about 3/4 inch long.. when I got them, the LFS said 2 would be ok along with my other fish, NOW after learning a little from this site, I know different.. I'm hoping to get my 55 gal soon, have one in my 10g and one in my 55g

Are you keeping just that in the 10g? Again, I forsee problems if you wish to house it with other fish. Its territorial nature takes over with time and size.

I'm really not sure what I'm going to do really... I had thought maybe keeping 1 CAE with some rosy barbs in the 10g after I got the 55g. and in the 55g have 1 CAE with some platies, danios.. ??? not really sure?

Got any Ideas for my??

Dave

PS .. probably getting the 55g within the next month or so..
