kitten Fish Guru Meow? Posts: 2266 Kudos: 2194 Votes: 19 Registered: 18-Nov-2003 | Going to throw up some quick pictures... gotta run. Divided tank, girls on the left, boys on the right. There's three boys, here's the yellow and pink tails... there's a blue tail, too. The two girls... And a random platty (i think), that came along for the ride... so small. Can't tell for sure, but I think it's a girl. ~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~ |

Good luck with the guppies--I seem to have issues! I swear I can keep other things alive--diffrent types of fish etc. But I have issues with guppies omg. None of mine were as beautiful as yours though!!! Jess |

kitten Fish Guru Meow? Posts: 2266 Kudos: 2194 Votes: 19 Registered: 18-Nov-2003 | Hmm... let's hope I cover all the questions asked. No, I don't keep any of my fish in brackish water. They've done well for me in straight fresh. I know I'll probably wind up with babies from these girls, but that's not really my purpose. (And that should be interesting, as these five guppies were together - pale pastel males and bright yellow/orange females.) I've lost some guppies lately (some to age, some to their stupidity, others to randomness) and want to bring up the numbers again. However, I didn't want to deal with fry. What fry I do get out of these girls is going to be completely luck of the draw. I'll feed crushed flakes, but that's about all the attention they'll get. I'm QT-ing them for a month before introduding them to their respective tanks. The males and females will STAY separated. Most of the fry these girls drop will probably become fast food for the male betta that inhabits the ten gallon where they will be staying. Any fry that get dropped before the move to the main tank will presumably survive. Again, however, no special care other than appropriately sized foods. I don't like the idea of fry every month, I don't have that sort of room. As heidi/houston mentioned - my dad doesn't exactly know how many tanks I have, and if he sees the QT tank setup, he may have a hissy... There's no way this tank is staying up longer than necessary. Besides the fact that it has a rather loud air pump driving the two mini filters... I was hoping it would have settled in over the weekend while I was out of town. Of course, I'm thinking of letting my one surviving male from my original batch of fry loose with his sisters... wonder how that would turn out. I had more wild colors from that batch than fancy males... wonder if he (he's wild colored) would throw fancies? There was a nice line breeding going on there... my current guppies (not including the new ones) are results of three generations or so of line breeding. Not intentionally, of course, it's just what happens when you have male and female guppies together. Hmm... I'd have to remove the male betta for a day or so, then hope he didn't eat ALL the babies. It's a thought, but I hope the girls wouldn't give me babies for half a year! ~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~ |
