Hello all.

I am new to fishkeeping.

I have been given a established 30ltr Biorb with platys, Tetras, & Neons. Today I bought 5 Neon Blue Guppys and they are nipping at the orange platys. It seems its only the orange Platys they are nipping.

I was told at the fish shop they would get on fine with my other fish!!

Is there anything I can do to stop them nipping?

Thank you.

Guppies are very low on the food chain. I would not worry about their aggression towards your other fish. Look at your plattys closely for external parasites. The guppies might be doing them a favor.

You might add Stress Coat to the water to replace the slime coat on the platys.

I cannot imagine aggressive guppies but if it persists you could seperate them.

Punka, add some plants to your tank...this will give the platy and all of the fish a place to go and hide when they need to...Also since you have guppies, and platties in the tank you will need some plants for the fry to go hide in, as fry are inevitable when it comes to livebearers :%) that is the one thing that they do best ...

Also did you say this was a 30 litre tank? If so, you are looking at being overstocked. I hate to be the bearer of bad news especially since you just got it.

Let us know how many of each fish you have in the tank...ok? We should be able to help you find a solution to the stocking...it can be great fun once you get the hang of it

Have fun, and best of luck--Heidi
