Corydoran Enthusiast Posts: 269 Kudos: 370 Votes: 1217 Registered: 27-Sep-2004 | ADF=african dwarf frog IMO=in my opinion A five gallon tank will provide enough swimming space for two mollies and three guppies, but they will push the limits of the tank's bioload. If you are determined to have that combination, wait until the tank is fully cycled, get a good filter, and then be very watchful of tank parameters. |

Make sure the tank is cycled and you have strong filtration, and don't slack off on maint. Do weekly water changes and gravel vacs. I can't believe I DARE mention this...but if you even THOUGHT to go by the one inch of adult fish per gallon rule, that would mean you could keep 5" of fish...so make your decisions wisely. I really do hate that rule though, because stocking should be ba And plus, size 1" neon tetras do not have the same effect as one 6" oscar would. The neons could be kept in a ten, the oscar couldn't. See my point? Back to the ADF thing, African Dwarf Frogs are very peaceful small fully aquatic frogs. I'd say in a 5 gallon you could keep 2-3 with a male betta and some ghost shrimpies too. That'd be what I would do with the tank, as I'm not a livebearer fan. [/rambling] HTH Last edited by Ferretfish at 25-Jan-2005 11:54 -Formerly known as the Ferretfish |

Hoa dude_dude Mega Fish Posts: 957 Kudos: 888 Votes: 72 Registered: 28-Dec-2004 | THANK YOU SO MUCH do African Dwarf Frogs need brackish water,or anything special like a heater or salt & do ghost "Shrimpies" need anything special like a heater or salt? once again Thanks!!Do African Dwarf Frogs need land, & how big do they get? Would it make a diffrence if instead of getting guppies I got neon tetras? THANX "and then be very watchful of tank parameters"What do you mean by that. katieb Fish Addict Posts: 697 Votes: 69 Registered: 03-Jul-2004 | IMHO, i wouldnt do mollies, especially 2. They get to be about 4 inches and with the hieght, length, and width you gave us, it doesnt seem like theyd have a ton of room. I would go with a trio of guppies....or you can check out these: killifish guppies endlers female bettas ADF Paradise fish (Better off in a ten) Cherry Barbs Dwarf puffer Last edited by katieb at 25-Jan-2005 20:12 I'll do graffiti, If you sing to me in French. |

Corydoran Enthusiast Posts: 269 Kudos: 370 Votes: 1217 Registered: 27-Sep-2004 | African dwarf frogs grow to around 2.5 inches. They do not need salt, but a heater would be helpful if the temperature would dip below 64 otherwise. They can't survive long outside of water, so you don't need to bother with land. Ghost shrimp don't need salt, either. |

T/A Mega Fish Posts: 942 Kudos: 1796 Registered: 20-Feb-2004 | ADFs don't really need anything special. As long as you give them foods that sink to the bottom and open air space between the water and lid they will survive. They are very hardy and most likely will out live any fish that you get. |
