I am going to buy a new tank tomorrow (or maybe tonight) but I'm not sure what the smallest I can get is. I am going to have to use it as a nursery as one of the platies I sent to my daughters science class graced me w/lots of babies before she left. So, any suggestions? Thanks again! |

I've found many "specials" in MANY stores.... However, it all really depends on how many fry you have.... I know that we did well when one of our platys gave birth with a 20 gal tank ---- and when I finally took them to our lfs, they fry count was over 40 and average size was a little over an inch! Naturally, we had 2 filters going in the 20 gal at the time and did weekly vac/water changes (about 90%)...... eventually we added a couple of ottos and 3 cories to help maintain the tank.... But initially, we had the babies in a 10 gal --- and kept them them there for about 2 months..... Wish you the best of luck! ![]() To thine own self be true... |

I was thinking a 10 or 20gal but wanted to make sure that would be big enough. My local Petsmart has one that I really like so maybe I'll go get it tomorrow. Thanks again! Robin |

A sponge or corner filter is a good choice for a nursery. If you end up with a HOB make sure to cover the intake with nylon or netting so you won't have any babies sucked in. Water quality due to frequent feedings required for fry is important in a nursery. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

He has plenty of room to bask or he can swim a little. Any he's not w/any fish or anything else at all for that matter. ![]() |
