My Rainbow platy is acting a little bizarre lately. At feeding time, she takes a nibble, then swims verticle, upside down, floats then corrects herself for more food. Last night when we fed her, she did a little flippy thing but didn't stay on her back.

Anyone else see behavior like this? I thought for sure that something was terribly wrong but unless eating, there is no abnormal behavior.

i have never seen this, maybe swimm bladder or only when she feeds. with flakes the fish like goldfish will take in alot of air, and until they correct the problem they can float.

Sometimes my plecos suck so hard on their algae wafers that they flip themselves onto their backs - perhaps your fish is doing something similar?

Could be. . .she hasn't done it in a few days now.. maybe she was just REALLY enjoying her food or something.

As for sucking really hard on it... She was eating flakes at the time.. I don't usually put BIG flakes in as I have mainly smaller fish.

hmmphh.. it is happends again, I will try to take note in more detail.

ok... something is obviously VERY, VERY wrong. There is no sign of illness on the outside of my Rainbow Platy, so the only thing that makes sense is an internal infection. I think it is only a matter of a day or so before I lose her.
