I just bought 5 drawf platies. I read somewhere that they breed easy. I'm not sure if I want to breed them or have fry. Is it humane to let the parents eat the fry or do you think it's cruelty? If I do decide to raise fry, what should/can I do with them. Sell them, to whom? Keep them, where(eventually I'll run out of tank space)? Let me know what you all think.

I don't think it is cruel to let the parents eat their fry. That's what they do in real life, and it ensures only the best survive. More often than not, the parents will eat their fill and leave many alone, and you'll be overrun anyways, without even lifting a finger. Donating them to the LFS works well, as far as getting rid of them goes.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

I agree, I don't think it's cruel really. It's kinda almost unpreventable if you think about it actually.

If you set up a grow out tank, you can raise some of the fry, and donate or possibly sell them back to an LFS or two when they reach a considerable size, like Janna was saying. If you bring them back while they're still tiny, they will prolly end up as food though.

If you have males and females, you are almost guaranteed to have fry. Being livebearers, they will most def. breed for you whether you're ready or not.

What about euthanasia? If a really sick guppy is dying in the tank, what is the best way to ... end their suffering?

I wanted to isolate them but don't have an extra tank. Don't want them to spread any disease.

I would just leave them, I had swordtails and only had 3 fry survive after quite a lot of breedings. I just left them alone and it worked out fine really

You can always sell or donate the fry that you don't need.
