I am worried about one of my male platys. I have three males and four females. All my platy's hang out together, quite often breeding but sometimes just swimming about together. However one of the males can't seem to infiltrate the group. It looks as if he's interested in the females but the other males chase him off. Is it because he's a different type of platy. He's a bit smaller than the other males too. I've been debating whether to get him a couple of platy's like himself to hang out with incase he's lonely. He swims round happily enough but always seems to be on his own. I have guppies as well but they don't seem to want him either. Also can guppies miscarry. I had one female guppy who was defineltly pregnant. Could see dark bits that our babies eyes but I came down and she had lost her belly. But I'm sure she had only been pregnant a week or so.

I wouldn't think getting more platies would solve the problem. It could be that he is the 'runt' of the group and the other males have established their dominance with the females. Its best to have a 1 male to 3 females ratio.

Ok. Thanks for the advice. Will see if can get couple more females to make the ratio 3:1.

I've kind of have the same problem 3 red platies, 1 blue, one white n red spotted and a white n black one...and I find the red ones all hang out together and when the male white n red platy tries to umm...say hi to the girls the male red chases him away. He has much better luck with the other girls, so maybe not the same color but a different color will help him?

Cheers. Will try and get him a different type of female so he can 'say hi' without getting chased.
