Platys or what else? | |
Peter17 Enthusiast Posts: 230 Kudos: 208 Votes: 1 Registered: 31-Dec-2004 | Well I have just cycled my new tank ( 10 gallon )...and iam so fed up with trying to choose wich tetra or wich other fish to choose and compatibility is just a pain in the but! so iam thinking of starting a platy tank. Now i hear that they like to give birth often...i dont mind this cuz the small fry are so cute! heres my situation: I have 2 cherry barbs, 2 cories, and one gold barb. I have some room for some more fish...i want live bearers. I need some facts and some anwsers. Please help!!!!!!! If not platy's wich fish? Do platys need salt in their water...cuz i dont want to add any salt at all! TIA 20 GALLON LONG CURRENTLY EMPTY ~~~~ 10 GALLON W/ STRIPPED CONVICT |

If you are really onto platies, you're best bet is going to be to bring the loners back and start out with just the platies.. your cherry barbs can stay however. |

Posts: 2623 Kudos: 2462 Votes: 337 Registered: 29-Mar-2003 | Yes, as Tim said your gold barbs and corries need some friends...take them back and get either platties, or guppies...either way you are gauranteed fry once a month every month till you shut down the tank...I love my guppies. Just remember 1 male to each 2-3 females...or in some cases if you get the right females you don't even need a male present as once the females have been on contact with a male they can remain fertilized for up to 9 months:%) An even better bet in my opinion, is save the 10 gallon as a fry tank, and go get a larger tank 29 or 55 and use it for everything you have, including filling out the gold barbs and corries...
