I bought a pregnant swordtail from the store two days ago. She was pretty far along so I put her in a breeding net. Well ever since they put her in a bag at the store she has been swimming sideways. Like her stomach is a balloon. Is there something wrong?

*ponders* Well, I know next to nothing about swordtails, but... are you sure she's pregnant? It almost sounds more like issues with her swim bladder.

Also, swordies are rather large, I hope you have a big breeding net, or she'll be stressed with the confined spaces.

That's all I sort of kind of know. Good luck!

We have a very pregnant swordtail that has had two batches of babies. Each time before she is about to go she floats and swims sideways. I always think she looks like a very pregnant woman who has that cute waddle!

I too have a pregnant swordtail. Every time I look at her she gets bigger. She too swims sideways and likes to hide at the bottom of the tank a lot or behind the filter.

If you leave the fry in the tank and don't take them out, will the male eat them?

I also heard that they can have as many as 80 fry at a time. Is that true?
