So, I bought 2 Blue Mickey Mouse Platies today. They had what I thought was 1 female and 3 males, and I asked for a pair. The girl corrected me (this is actually a good LFS), and said there were 2 females/2 males.

Well, both of the fish I have seem to be males because they both have a gonopodium. But she mentioned that one was a female because it's pregnant, and that the fin thing was kind of strange.
I'm new, but I would agree it's pregnant due to the dark spot on her/him...the other male doesn't have it, and since they are a tad see-thru, you can see something is in her/him.

Any ideas?

Is it it possible you have a male Variatus Platy? Never heard of a Blue Mickey Mouse (but I'm no Platy expert) but the Variatus does come in blue and the male Variatus have a very distinct gravid spot, it's always there but they are by no means pregnant.

I must admit this threw me at first when I got some Variatus.

I know I have seen the Blue Mickeys in a few stores and online, so I'm assuming it's a regular Platy. But I may be wrong.

Also, it's hard to describe, but when 'looking through' the fish (with the tank light on), you can see a dark area of something inside the "pregnant" one that isn't in the other.

Should I return it, and get the one I know is a female? What would you guys do?
