Pregnant molly help!! | |
Lawnboy41 Fingerling Posts: 32 Kudos: 29 Votes: 0 Registered: 22-Mar-2005 | I have 2 (if not 3) pregnant mollies in my tank. 2 have the gravity spot near their tail the other is all black and I can't really tell if she is or not. Is there certain behavior pregnant fish (or mollies) posses when pregnant or about to give birth. One of them is always hiding (near filter, underneath plants) another has some stringy poo but isn't always white, they seem to be eating fine. My male molly that is in the tank with them is always energetic and seems to be always horny (trying to prod the females with his gonopodium thingy). Also was wondering if there are certain things I can do to make the females pregnancy easier. (IE more salt, higher temp, etc.) Please help Thanks Jamie |

It's your call. You could remove the male to another tank so he won't be trying to mate with the females. (BTW, most livebearer males will continually harass the females to mate regardless if the females are pregnant or not). Sometimes the females will hide preceeding giving birth, but most of the time they'll give birth without prior notice. I've noticed that the pregnant females get so pregnant that it looks almost unbearable, but they still don't drop fry until a week later....you never know. If your first batch of fry don't live, it's ok, you'll have more as soon as the male gets to the females! Good luck! I've got a fever... and the only presc |
