Problem with Platy mommy-need help please | |
littletank Hobbyist Posts: 57 Kudos: 59 Votes: 0 Registered: 25-Jan-2005 | Hello, two weeks ago my platy mom gave birth. I found only four fry and put them in a separate tank so they wouldn't get eaten. Sunkist, the platy mom, seemed fine with it. Today, however, she is "resting" on her bottom fins at the bottom of the tank. She has also been hiding in this little rock cave i have. Her appearance looks fine, no ich or fin rot etc. The male platy is fine and the zebra danios are fine as well. I can tell that she is pregnant again already, but it's definitely too early for her to deliver again, right? I thought maybe she was hiding because she was ready to deliver, maybe? I tested the water and it's ammonia 0, nitrite 0, and nitrate 0. The nitrAte reading is a little strange. Shouldn't there be SOME nitrAte in the water? Last week the nitrAte was around 25. The only other thing going on with the water is an algae bloom. I'd appreciate any help you can give. I loooove Sunkist, and don't know what could be the matter with her. She's always been so active until today. littletank |

I don't think the tank was getting enough oxygen in the water since there was no flow. I cleaned out the filter along with it's motor. Yuck it was really gross! But, now she's back to her old self again! Another lesson learned: if fishy seems lathargic, check the filter! littletank |

Mine happens to wake me up when it is out of balance, but that is just me...hml "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." Thomas Carlyle |
