I just got a Female Blue Mickey Mouse Platy last week and she was happy and healthy, now i noticed she has YELLOW on the inside edges of her dorsel and tail fin.

Should i be concerned with this condition?

Also, a few days after i got her i got a Male White Mickey Mouse Platy. at the pet store i noticed he tried to breed a few times with the females, he doesnt seem to be THAT interested in her he will follow her and stuff but not mate , she likes the company of him but she doesnt seem interested in him either! i really want them to breed , is there anthing that maybe i could do to coax them to breed ??? lol.

Thanx in advance!!!
sry 4 all the questions!

get a bigger tank... some times fishes wont breed due to low space i think....

any ways, u cant really see them breed. i never saw my female breed with one of my old (and dead males. thats why i was surprised to see the babies were yellow.

a fresh water change will often encourage fish to breed. some, species (not sure about plattys) are also "turned on" by low water levels followed by a big fresh water change.

please correct me if I am wrong

Hi, sorry can't help you with the yellow on the fins - you might be better off putting a post up in the hospital for an answer on that.
What I can tell you is that platies breed....thats what they do.I've never actually seen my platies mate but they do exactly what you describe. The male follows the females around and they kinda shrug him off.Sounds perfectly normal to me.
What I would recommend though is get some live foods.I've noticed that for breeding any fish this is nearly always recommended.
My platies go mad for brine shrimp and blood worms...tehy love them.

hope this helps.

I would recommend some bloodworms, I have the problems with the male platy's never leaving the females alone, so I seperated then, Is it a young male.

Did you ever get an answer about the yellow edged fins ?

Is the yellow something that wasn't there before or did you just not notice it ? I have a male sailfin molly - same thing. I did not notice the slight yellow tint until a few days after I adopted him. I've just kept a close eye on it to make sure it wasn't a sign of fin rot or something and the tint hasn't changed so unless someone else can suggest something, I would suggest the same to you. You can add MelaFix just as a precaution (won't hurt).
