Signs of giving birth | |
jonthacker Hobbyist Posts: 56 Kudos: 35 Votes: 7 Registered: 20-Oct-2005 | Hi, I have a guppy about 2.5 inches long, and it had babies about thirty days ago. I'm not sure what color the gravid spot should be, but right now it's dark crimson and I have it in a breeding trap. It's been in there about five days. Does anyone know any signs of about to give birth? |

First, she will gain a real square box like shape when viewed from behind. Then, she will try to hide a lot. On the day she is ready to give birth you will see she will start breathing really heavily and seem very nervous, and she will refuse to eat, or pretend to eat but will just spit the flake out. Breeding traps are very difficult, I have always found that the mother guppy either miscarries or dies. Add some plants if you can, that would help.
